Black Void Symphony June 30 - July 26, 2018 at Leslie Wolfe Gallery, Chicago

The works in this series are autobiographical. They use the platform of music performance posters for underground cultural activities. These posters are presented as historical relics, but also they reveal artists’ ideas and attitudes towards contemporary society. They are inspired by the punk DIY attitude and printing techniques, such as stencils, copy-machines, screen-printing, and mono-printing. The flaws of these techniques are part of the message. Like the original Czechoslovakian underground posters, the locations of the events on the posters are unclear or not stated. Keeping locations secret prevented authorities from disrupting the performances, and the work recreates this ingenious method of clandestine communication.
